“After the demise of underground legends DEAD MOON in fall 2006, nobody was surprised to hear that founders Fred and Toody Cole had lost little time in starting a new band. They recruited drummer Kelly Halliburton in April 2007, and soon the PIERCED ARROWS were up and running, playing live shows in the Northwest and recording songs for upcoming releases.”

Waves and Radiation - Bob’s Java Jive, Tacoma, WA - February 24, 2007
3 photos · 10 Mar 2007
These guys gave me a demo. It had one of those labels that stick in the slot loading dvd drive on the iMacs. Their sound is sort of lo-fi space rock a la Duster (meets Mogwai?). Some people call this sort of thing post-rock. The term post-rock is absolutely ridiculous.

New York Dolls - El Corazon, Seattle - November 11, 2006
12 photos · 12 Nov 2006
These photos were all taken from pretty far back in the crowd. The stage was pretty well lit, but there were a shit-ton of asshats in front of me. These shots are all digital and held overhead. It would have been nice to get up closer and actually compose the shots, but I mentioned the whole asshats thing, right? Whatever happened, happened.

Split Lip Rayfield - Tractor Tavern, Seattle - November 10, 2006
9 photos · 12 Nov 2006
Kirk Rundstrom, guitar player for the Wichita, Kansas bluegrass band Split Lip Rayfield, was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Though he endured four months of chemotherapy, the cancer spread and he was given only a few months to live. He decided best therapy would be to hit the road one last time, playing a round of shows before retiring to beat the cancer for good. They played the Tractor Tavern in Ballard on November 10th. These are some of the images taken.

Taboo Revue - Hell’s Kitchen, Tacoma - August 20, 2006
5 photos · 20 Aug 2006
Taboo Revue, Burlesque — and “Boy”lesque — from Vancouver, BC. Got off to a slow start with some karaoke with made up drunken harlot lyrics, but revved up and ended up being quite entertaining. Watched some uncomfortable squirming when the boylesque started. Tacoma is sometimes way too tough guy cool for school.
-
Broken Oars - Hell’s Kitchen, Tacoma - August 20, 2006
5 photos · 20 Aug 2006
Broken Oars played aggro, anthemic, somewhat melodic, hardcore punk rock. I took a few photos but I kind lost interest after a few songs. The absolutely ridiculous 4 man, tough guy “pit” made it even less desireable to hang out. Who wants a kick in the face? Yeah, not me…
