New rock photography up

Filed under: photography — sparkrobot @ 6:01 pm

Well… sorta. Some of it is rather old. I finally got a few minutes to edit some photos – new and old – and add them to the rock photo gallery. I’ve recently updated my equipment from the old FujiFilm to a Nikon D50. So. Wow. I guess next up is actually learning how to use the damn thing. Reading the manual though? Come on. That’s SO boring.

Anyway, if you’ve been on the edge of your seat waiting for me to update the gallery, your time has come. Check out photos of band like The Little Killers, Valis, The Stuckups, The Cinch, X27, The Earaches, Bob Log III, The Eastside Suicides, Ronson Family Switchblade, The Electric Kisses and the Urgencies to name a few. I’ll be adding new photos as well as a backlog about a mile long.

CHS Circus logos

Filed under: design — sparkrobot @ 2:38 pm

Stumbled across a cool collection of old Circus logos via veer.com. Veer’s recently redesigned and includes a new design blog. Good design inspiration and the new look at veer’s not too shabby neither. It’s not a major overhaul but the design seems to be more suggestive and inviting overall. A nice improvement on an already well designed site.

The Politics of Old Style Beer

Filed under: tacoma — sparkrobot @ 2:00 pm

The politics of beer appear to be completely different according to this radically different red state/blue state map… In Chicago, Old Style is like a way of life. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on your taste I suppose) It’s not even availble in Tacoma.

The Melloman – DIY Mellotron

Filed under: rock — sparkrobot @ 4:55 pm

Wow. Here’s some straight up ingenuity at work. Mike Walters has built his The Melloman – DIY Mellotron from Walkmans and cassette samples of an original Mellotron and a case homemeade from oak and steel. That’s cool. Check it out.

Three Bears Lodge at Mount Rainier

Last weekend, my wife and I got the chance to get out of town and head up to Mount Rainier National Park and stay at Three Bears Lodge. The lodge is about 200 yards or so from the Nisqually gate to the park. Friday afternoon, I packed up a few things, charged up the iPod and hit the road.

I hate The Fucking Eagles.

Went down to the Java Jive on Saturday night to catch a rock show. I got there too late and missed The Fucking Eagles (Ronson Family Switchblade reincarnate). What can I say about that? Nothing. Next up was Vinnie Vegas. This was a disco karaoke debacle that went on way too long and kinda drove a lot of people out of the bar. The Plastards were there to close the show – or, to experience a bunch of technical difficulties – depending on how you’re looking at it. You be the judge.

This was the busiest I’ve seen the jive in a while. Evidently there are people who come out to see rock shows in Tacoma. Who knew?

(Inside cab: The pleasant song Peaceful Easy Feeling by The Eagles is playing. Dude is holding an icepack to his head. )
DUDE: I’ve had a rough night, and I hate the fucking Eagles, man…
DRIVER: That’s it! Outta this fucking cab!

Totally shocking

Filed under: tacoma — sparkrobot @ 6:49 pm

Wow. It appears this guy had his last unlucky day. Totally shocking story.

“Man Electrocuted While Trying To Steal Power Line – The electricity traveled down the rope, through the men and into the ground where it sparked a fire in the dry brush.”

1.21 Gigawatts!? Man, that’s pretty stupid.
